School Committee Election Results
NTA endorsed candidate Kathy Shields won her election to remain the School Committee member representing Ward 7. NTA endorsed candidate Shawn Fitzgibbons bid to win the Ward 6 School Committee election was, unfortunately, unsuccessful.
Community Outreach
Interested in community outreach efforts with the NTA? We are recruiting members for our Parent / Educator Collaborative. The collaborative aims to connect community supporters with NTA members from all schools and levels, with a mission to support educators and their union. Looking ahead, we will be meeting regularly to grow community advocacy efforts around educators, our schools, and our union. Learn more here and sign up to attend our next meeting using this form.
Building Support for Addressing Racial Disparities in Newton Public Schools
Do you stand behind the following "Push for Specific Actions with Community Support"?
"Hiring more teachers of color;
Strengthening the disciplinary process in response to racist incidents;
Reducing racial disparity in discipline in the schools."
If so, please consider signing this statement put into circulation by Tassy Warren and former Mayor Setti Warren. Join the "effort to build a shared understanding and community support for the difficult, but critical work of ensuring our school system is a place that creates opportunity for all and prepares all of our students with the best possible education and training for the 21st century world they’ll enter."
Mass Child Grants
Mass Child reimburses preK-12 local associations that purchase items for students who are facing financial challenges. For more than 20 years, Mass Child has helped MTA educators ensure that their students have had warm winter clothing, eyeglasses, school supplies and countless other items, making it possible for children to overcome some of the non-educational barriers to learning. And this work continues. If you know of a child or family in need, please contact the NTA office or your building rep.
